The American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) is a non-profit organization that boards certified obstetricians and gynecologists (OB GYNS) and offers continuing certification to OB GYNS in the U. S. and Canada. Board certification is a voluntary process for those physicians who want to pursue certification. You’ll start the process of board certification from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in your fourth year of residency.

To become board certified, you have got to pass the abog qualifying exam (written test) to demonstrate that you have the specialized knowledge and skills required for the medical and surgical care of women. You must collect cases reflecting your attention before the Certifying Exam (oral exam).

A team of well-respected national experts gives the Certifying Exam. The exam tests your skills, knowledge, and ability to treat different conditions. The examiners also review cases associated with the patients that you’ve got treated during the past year.

At this exam, you’ll be expected to demonstrate the abilities necessary to use the appropriate knowledge to the management of clinical problems.

These skills include:

  • Obtaining needed information
  • Interpretation and use of knowledge obtained.
  • Selecting, instituting, and implementing appropriate care
  • Management of complications
  • Follow-up and continuing care

The abog qualifying exam consists of multiple-choice questions that cover approximately 30% obstetrics, 30% gynecology, 30% office practice and women’s health, and 10% cross-content. The number of items varies annually.

Many of the abog qualifying exam questions are constructed to be thought to impress and problem-solving. For several problems, all possible answers could even be plausible, but only one answer is the most correct. The exam takes approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes.

Before scheduling an examination appointment, you want to have already:

  • Been approved for an ABOG qualifying examination;
  • Been notified of your eligibility to require a seat for the examination;
  • Q banks are the best thanks to reviewing for the written exam.

They’re useful, and if you use the right one, it’ll cover all the topics you’d wish to understand.

  • One of the favorite studying tips is to figure out your “unknown unknowns.” Simply put, this means you need to determine what you don’t know. Here’s the way to do this:
  • Answer a problem from a Q bank If you answer incorrectly, read the explanation
  • Take notes about why the proper answer is correct, and ensure to require records on anything within the reason that you simply didn’t already know.

If you’re doing this for every question, you answer incorrectly. If you regularly review your notes and add information to topics as you’re doing more problems, you’ll eventually determine your unknown unknowns. In return, you’ll uncover most of your blind spots that question on the board exam can ask about.

Results of the exam are typically revealed in September of the same year. If you pass, that’s great, and you began the method for your oral. If you fail, all isn’t lost because you’ll get more chances. There are some stipulations, however. If you fail the written exam five consecutive times, you’ll get to complete additional education before becoming eligible to take a seat for the written exam again.
